Phoenix, AZ (July, 2008)--Yoga for Seniors with Alzheimer’s and Dementia Comfort Therapy. In 2007, the call came out from Yoga Phoenix....to all Kundalini Yoga Teachers, take your skills out into the community and serve those in need!  Bring your service the population that would not otherwise be able to participate in learning practical yogic techniques to improve their lives and to reduce distress from this chaotic world.

Three women, Tina, Sumr, and Lauren, already had a background in working with the elderly as caregivers and fitness instructors, stepped up to begin a pilot program called Yoga Phoenix for Alzheimer’s' and Dementia Comfort Therapy. Encouraged by research being conducted at the University of Pennsylvania on the effects of a particular yoga meditation practice on brain functioning and memory, the program began in a group nursing home for 8 clients who were in the late stages of Alzheimer’s.

Although these seniors were very limited in physical movement and mental awareness, they were none the less able to benefit from these practical skills. Working with the caregivers the yoga teachers were able to track the clients’ progress in areas such as breathing, movement and sound vibration. The client’s all showed varying levels of improvement including decreased anxiety and increased physical movement and mental clarity. Moving forward from this pilot, the goal for this program is to have trained teachers to facilitate this program in 10 nursing, group or retirement homes by the end of 2008. If you know of a person or facility that would benefit from this program, call 602-271-4480.

Phoenix, AZ (July 14, 2008)--Yoga Phoenix Graduates a New Class of Kundalini Yoga Teachers This Month. This July, the teacher training students at Yoga Phoenix are completing a 7 month training course recognized both by the Kundalini Research Institute (KRI) and by Yoga Alliance, two internationally recognized yoga- related certifying boards. The new graduates are certified as Level One Kundalini Yoga Instructors and are eligible for the 200 hour Yoga Alliance designation as registered yoga teachers (RYT). Yoga Phoenix boasts the Phoenix area’s only Kundalini yoga teacher training program.

As an awareness of the benefits of a strong yoga practice becomes part of mainstream culture, classes and teacher training opportunities for yoga practitioners are exploding both locally and nationally. What is the advantage to choosing Kundalini Yoga over other yoga styles? Known as the yoga of awareness, Kundalini yoga is regarded as the mother of other types of yoga; many other yoga practices are believed to have stemmed from this “original” yoga. Kundalini Yoga is often billed as the most powerful yoga ever known; results are generally much faster with Kundalini yoga than with other types of yoga. During a recent television interview on Fox 10 News, Sevak Singh, Yoga Phoenix’s lead teacher trainer, stated, “You can walk, you can ride a bike. If you want to take the jet plane, you do Kundalini yoga. It’s a very powerful yoga.”
