Deepen Your Practice of Kundalini Yoga
1. Advance your Practice with Classes, Workshops, & Special Events
Workshops and Special Events provide the opportunity to explore special topics in Kundalini Yoga and experience the effects of Kundalini Yoga on a deeper level. 2. Do Sadhana (daily practice) Sadhana is a daily personal practice. In the Kundalini Yoga tradition, it is suggested that a personal practice be done early in the morning, ideally before sunrise! This time is the optimal time for spiritual practice and it prepares you for the day ahead. However, a Sadhana practice can be done at any time. Sadhana can be a few minutes of meditation when you wake in the morning, it can be a yoga class you attend, or it can be any spiritual practice. It is a practice of connecting to your spirit in a focused and conscious way. A good way to get into the Sadhana habit is to start with a 40-day practice (mentioned above.) Yoga Phoenix offers free group sadhana every day! Group sadhana is a powerful way to commit to your own practice and to develop group consciousness. Visit our Sadhana page for more information. 3.Practice 40 Days to Make a Change! Yogic science teaches that it takes 40 days to create or change a habit. A 40-day commitment to change can provide the shift needed to develop a healthy habit or to drop a destructive habit. A first step in experiencing the challenge and the satisfaction of lasting change is to commit to 40 consecutive days of yoga practice. There are several approaches to a 40-day practice. Some students start by attending yoga classes 40 days in a row. This is a great way to strengthen the body and commit to a set length of practice time each day. It can also be a helpful step towards developing an on-going Sadhana (daily practice) habit – especially if you have trouble setting practice time at home. Another option is to practice a specific meditation every day for 40 days. If you need guidance in selecting a meditation, your teacher can offer suggestions. If there is something in particular that you want to work on bringing into your life or something you want to let go of, practice a meditation for that issue. There are meditations that work on almost everything! For the most profound results, a meditation that is at least 11 minutes long will be most effective. This practice is a discipline and requires that you make time at home every day to do it. A 40-day practice is demanding. It is difficult. But you can do it. The 40-day practice gives you the experience of discipline and it teaches you that you can go through the challenges in life and create the change you desire. There will be days when you don’t want to keep going. But as Yogi Bhajan, the Master Teacher of Kundalini Yoga, always said, "Keep up and you will be kept up!" Keep going and, at the end, you will have truly accomplished something. For many, it is helpful to journal during the fourty days. 4.Teacher Training – For Anyone Who Wants to Learn More The best way to gain an in-depth understanding of Kundalini Yoga is to take part in a Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training course. These courses are for serious students of Kundalini Yoga who want to take their practice and learning to a deeper level. Teacher Training courses provide transformational and educational experiences whether you want to be a yoga teacher or not. These courses cover all the basics of Kundalini Yoga as well as exploring topics such as lifestyle, philosophy, spiritual development, and humanology. See our Teacher Training page for more information on the upcoming Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training course. 5.Get involved in Kundalini Yoga Community Events Here in Phoenix, we are blessed with a large and active community of yoga practicioners. There are community gatherings several times a week: group chanting, potlucks, parties, and more. These get-togethers are a great way to meet yoga students and teachers. Every one is welcome. Ask your teacher for more information or sign up for our email newsletter next time you come to class. 6.White Tantric Yoga – A Profound Experience in Meditation White Tantric Yoga is a unique meditative practice that is done only in specific courses and is an amazing opportunity for cleansing the subconscious mind and creating personal change. White Tantric Yoga courses are held all over the world on a regular basis and each year, a White Tantric Yoga course is held in Phoenix. The next course in Phoenix will be held on February 24, 2007. For more information on the Phoenix course, see our White Tantric Yoga page. 7.Check out Kundalini Yoga Events and Training World-wide There are many Kundalini Yoga events held around the world, including yoga festivals, training courses, women’s camps, and other events. Each year, many teachers and students from Phoenix travel to New Mexico for some of these events. One of the most popular events, Summer Solstice, is held in New Mexico every June. Summer Solstice is a week long yoga event involving camping in the beautiful Jemez Mountains, yoga classes, and three days of White Tantric Yoga (see above.) It is an amazing and profoundly transformational experience. Visit www.3HO.org for a listing of upcoming Kundalini Yoga events or ask your teacher for more information. Summer Solstice is the ultimate experience for the advancing Kundalini student – and it well worth planning to attend! 8.Recommended Reading The following books are suggested reading for in-depth study of Kundalini Yoga topics.
